Who We Are

We are a project funded partnership between six Hispanic Serving Institutions- The University of New Mexico (UNM), New Mexico State University (NMSU), Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), City College, The City University of New York (CCNY-CUNY), Lehman College-CUNY and Hostos Community College-CUNY.

Our purpose is to help institutions of higher education create effective actions for advancing undergraduate student success in STEM and beyond and to catalyze enduring transformational equity.

Our 5-year long project- spanning from 2023 to 2028- has three broad goals:

Examine institutional data across various partner sites to assess equity in admissions, enrollment, retention, degrees awarded and post degree outcomes and produce policy briefs based on findings. Develop and convene communities of practice, consisting of faculty fellows and other stakeholders across project sites in order to share and learn about equity initiatives that have been implemented in other institutions and develop action plans for our own units.

Center intersectionality as equity through narrative change, communication strategies and publications Develop an online resource tool for other institutions and the public at large to utilize in their own intersectionality work. Develop a handbook and propose a special issue to a relevant journal on the entire project process of practicing intersectionality as inquiry and praxis in the context of STEM programs at Hispanic Serving Institutions.

Our work has been made possible by generous grant from the National Science Foundation.
